THE JCAHO AND EACH HOSPITAL SECURITY OFFICER

Version 2.0                                     1998
HS704                                                              19 minutes

APPLICATION: This videotape shows a Hospital Security Officer how his or her daily work plays a major role in preserving the hospital and the environment of care as sites where staff, patients and visitors can be safe and secure while using the services offered.

Communicorp in this new version of one of our most widely used programs introduces a new concept to hospital security officers, namely "Alert Movement"©.

"Alert Movement"© defines the concept that each security officer, during every moment of their time at the employment site, is capable of contributing to the safety and security of that location by virtue of their attention to everything around them and everything that is going on in their environment. "Alert Movement"© stresses that every moment at the work site is a moment that requires being alert. Even the simplest and most routine movements become professional opportunities for observation, notation and possible action.

The JCAHO through the Environment of Care Standards requires assessment, training, standard setting and performance analysis for the Security Department.

Officers, on completion of this videotape, should be able to:

List the safety hazards in at least six different areas of the hospital.

Define "Alert Movement"©.
Discuss safety standards reference

  • Emergency stairwells

  • Parking areas

  • Small electrical appliances - Inflammable gases - Smoking policies.

  •  Describe the patient's expectation for safety and security and how it could affect hospital census.

Discuss how each officer can communicate security policy and procedures to all of the people with whom they interact.
