EMERGENCY ROOM CONTROL HS203 21 Minutes APPLICATION: To give Security Officers and ED personnel some techniques to use when problems occur in the ED and to respond to evolving guidelines on WorkPlace Violence. Because emergencies are usually unexpected and have traumatic consequences, their impact on human behavior is significant. The patient, friend or family member in the E.D. area can become a source of confusion, disruption and even violence. The hospital security officer is responsible for the protection of people and property. Given this responsibility, it is obvious that they will be called upon to assist in the management or prevention of problems in the E.D. This video discusses the dynamics of an emergency, factors which contribute to human violence, and offers suggestions for officer and ED staff conduct in response to various classes of high risk patients.
