APPLICATION: To prepare the officer to understand, prevent, report and make basic responses to fires.

Security personnel are often a first line of defense for an organization in times of fire and fire losses. Each security officer who understands fire, recognizes its causes and is prepared to respond to it, is an invaluable resource to the employer. Security Officers, during their routine patrol, may encounter fire hazards, threats to effective fire response or even the actual fire.

This video explains fire, what it is, what is required for it to occur, where fire risk is greatest and some theories on fire containment and alarm systems.

On completion of this videotape officers should be able to:

    Define the elements of fire risk assessment.

    Describe common fire hazards. Describe the four (4)
       classes of fire.

    State the concept of the fire triangle and its
       application to fire prevention and fire response.

    Describe the process of compartmentation.

     List the four types of fire extinguishers with the class
       of fire they are each designed to fight.

    Identify and describe two types of fire detection
       systems.
