INVESTIGATIONS PART 2:

INTERVIEWING TO OBTAIN THE TRUTH

SP 503                             21 Minutes

Objectives: Officers will be able to list the key steps to the interview and discuss ways to determine the truthfulness of what people say when interviewed.

The ability to acquire useful information is the measure of an officer's
skill when conducting investigations or completing written reports.

This videotape provides the officer with a "formula" when conducting
both formal and informal interviews. The Video follows a complete
investigation through interviews, collection of evidence and analysis of
interviewee behaviors.

Upon completion of this videotape the officer should be able to:

State four "body language indicators" and interpret their meaning.

List the three stages of the interview.

Differentiate between a leading and direct question.

Describe "perceptual distortion" and explain its significance.

List at least six requirements of the interview room.

Because security officers are constantly seeking information from people it is critical that officers have some preparation in the area of speaking to people who may or may not be giving truthful responses to the officer's questions.
